lyrics

Eleanor’s Daughter was sick of the fame,
For nothing more than being born of someone ordinary,
The journalists caught her sniffing around the grave
And laying flowers where she’d found her real mother lay
She was only sleeping and keeping a little of the money she’d made (in the motortrade)
But the papers showed her weeping and called her by a different name
It was a case of accidental fame

Born on a Tuesday, her mum couldn’t make ends meet
So Miss Rigby signed away the right to rub those little feet
A family in Reading took her into their home
And for 16 years they loved and she was their very own
Then one Wednesday morning she’s creeping and leaving the family she’d known (now she’s leaving home)
And the papers showed them weeping, now everybody knows their name
It was a case of accidental fame

They say ahhh, look at all the money she’s made
They say ahhh, look at all the people she’s played

She was going to write a book but she got tired of all the effort it took,
So she might put it in a blog
But before she wrote it out she stopped to think about
That once it is out it’s out
Eleanor’s daughter is sick of the fame
But she needs the daily bread she’s fed from the talk show to her bed
The journalist caught her sniffing cocaine
And her lover form the motor trade ran off with a meter maid
Then the papers lost her number and everyone forgot her name (was it Mary Jane?)
So she’s heading back to Reading, she’ll give her boy a different name
It was a case of accidental fame

They say ahhh, look at all the money she’s made
They say ahhh, look at all the people she’s played
She says ahhh, as she turns the back door key
She says ahhh, steps inside she’s free
